Public Lecture*: “Lead Cases on Women’s Rights and Gender Discrimination at Regional and International Tribunals”, Claude Cahn, Human Rights Adviser, UN Country Team Moldova
In recent years, a number of international and regional tribunals have made advances in clarifying the obligations of states in the field of women’s rights. The public lecture will look at some important “lead cases” ruled on by the European Court of Human Rights, the UN Human Rights Committee, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women, and others. The lecture is followed by discussion.

Workshop for Practitioners*: “Using the Optional Protocol to the International Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women”
Moldova has recently ratified the Optional Protocol to the International Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (OP CEDAW), which provides an international complaint mechanism and several other procedures for women’s rights-related issues. The workshops aims to provide an introduction to the mechanism. After a brief introduction of the Convention and the Optional Protocol, participants will work in groups on model cases for OP CEDAW.
The workshop is aimed at lawyers, civil society organizations, other practitioners and other interested parties.
